A Big Oaks Bear Story

Tonight during the weekly BOCS meeting, Rob Chapman, gave a presentation on the infamous black bear that wandered into the refuge in 2016. Rob has been with the Big Oaks for 2 years. He began his presentation with a little humor and background on his past experiences with black bears. Rob then went into general facts about black bears, and ended his presentation with the journey of the black bear, from Kentucky into Big Oaks and back into Kentucky. I very much enjoyed the presentation. I came out learning a few things about black bears. For instance, black bears are very capable swimmers, and the Big Oaks bear likely came into Indiana by swimming across the Ohio River.
